We are created by God. The commencement and sustenance of our breath, our life comes from God.
The Bible starts by telling us about creation. The first verse of the Bible states In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1).
The creation account goes on to describe how God created:
- light and separated it from darkness and named it day and night
- a vault between the waters to separate water from water and named it sky
- dry ground and gathered the water under the sky together and named it land and seas
- vegetation on the land – seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds
- lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, to serve as signs to mark sacred times and days and years and named them sun, moon and stars
- the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds
- every winged bird according to its kind to fly above the earth across the vault of the sky
- the living creatures on the land according to their kinds – the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground and the wild animals
- mankind (human beings)
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)
The Psalmist writes For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13).
There are a number of additional verses in the Bible that reference us being alive because God created us and breathed life into us. Without breathe we cease to exist.
As well as what is seen, God has also created all that is unseen in the spiritual realm.
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:15)
God has revealed himself to us in what he has created. Pause and reflect on if you accept, if you have the faith to believe, that God created the physical earth, he created everything in the spiritual realm, and he created you.
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. (Romans 1:20)
